Seawolves Storm Back in a Thrilling Home Opener
UNBSJ Edges Dal Rams 2–1 in Gritty Home Victory
The UNBSJ Seawolves earned a well-deserved 2–1 win over the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams on Saturday afternoon in Saint John, thanks to a standout performance from Scarlette McDonald, who scored both goals for the home side.
Dal opened the scoring early in the match after being awarded a penalty in the 19th minute. Maggie Thistle stepped up and calmly slotted it home, giving the Rams a 1–0 lead.
UNBSJ responded with energy and pressure, and it paid off just past the half-hour mark. In the 32nd minute, McDonald found the back of the net to level the game at 1–1, finishing off a well-worked play set up by Jordis Hawthorn and the rest of the team.
The second half saw UNBSJ take control, with a flurry of shots and sustained pressure. Charlotte Kimens came close to putting the Seawolves ahead with a shot that rattled the crossbar, followed by another attempt that was denied by Rams goalkeeper Dannan Forbes. But in the 62nd minute, the breakthrough came: McDonald bagged her second of the day, this time off a perfectly placed assist from Jenna Brenton, giving UNBSJ a 2–1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Goalkeeper Casey Grant-Spin anchored the Seawolves at the back with several key saves, especially in the final minutes as Dal pushed for an equalizer. With this result, UNBSJ continues to build momentum in the 2025–26 season, showing grit, composure, and the potential for a great season.
