Seawolves Surges Past Rams
Saint John, NB – The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves scored early and scored often on their way to a 8-0 victory over the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams Saturday afternoon at the Canada Games Stadium.
Saturday marked day one of the Seawolves annual "Think Pink Weekend".
The Seawolves opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal coming from Scarlette McDonald (Wickham, NB) as she took a pass from Joce Splitgerber (Orono, ON) and took one touch around the keeper and slotted it into the back of the net. McDonald would round out the hat trick on the day, while adding two assists.
Splitgerber would also score a pair add an assist on the day. Rounding out the scoring for the Seawolves was rookie Jenna Brenton (Upper Tantallon, NS), veteran Haley Coleman (Hampton, NB) and Jenna Marr (Saint John, NB).
"We did everything we trained for during today's game. So that was nice to see it all come together like that," said McDonald after her team's effort on the pitch.
The Rams continued to push offensively down the stretch, but the back line for the Seawolves held strong, limiting the opposition's chances and keeping them off the scoresheet.
With the win the Seawolves move to 4-2-3 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-7-0.
Next action for the Rams comes Sunday, when they travel to Fredericton to play the St. Thomas University Tommies. The Seawolves will host the Holland College Hurricanes on Sunday in a game that will carry heavy playoff implications.
"We need to focus and understand we are playing two different teams and that what may have worked today, may not work tomorrow," said Splitgerber as the final home game of her Seawolves career looms on Sunday. "It's sad, but I'm excited to be home for it."
