Seawolves drop to Blue Devils to close home-opening weekend
(Saint John, NB) The UNB Saint John Seawolves wrapped up their home opening weekend with a matchup against University of King's College Blue Devils. The Blue Devils held an early lead, but the Seawolves managed to stay within a few points. UKC gained momentum and, by the end of the first quarter, extended their lead to 22-16, with the help from Lindsay Black, who gave a standout performance scoring 22 points overall for the Blue Devils. UKC secured a 13-point lead going into halftime, with a score of 40-27.
In the third quarter, both teams showcased strong defensive efforts, remaining scoreless until after the 7-minute mark. In the fourth quarter, the Seawolves aimed to close the gap and come out strong with the Blue Devils leading 54-38. UNBSJ came within a ten-point game at the 8-minute mark, 54-44, with help from Llorena Prekaj and Ava Sprague, who each scored 11 points for the Seawolves. However, in the end,they couldn't catch the Blue Devils, and UKC took the win, 65-53.
The Seawolves are on the road next weekend, Sunday, November 10, taking on the Holland College Hurricanes.
