(Saint John, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves men's soccer team battled valiantly but came up just short against the undefeated UKC Blue Devils, falling 2–1 at Canada Games Stadium on Sunday. With sunny skies and calm conditions making for ideal soccer weather, the Seawolves showcased their grit and teamwork in front of a crowd of 40.
UKC struck first in the 8th minute on an unassisted goal by fifth-year midfielder Jonah Cameron, but the Seawolves refused to back down. UNBSJ's fourth-year right back Keanu Pereira leveled the score in the 38th minute with a precise finish following a strong team buildup, highlighting the leadership and composure of the upperclassmen. Fifth-year centre back Ewan McKinnon marshaled the defense alongside fourth-year standouts Sam Hodd, Luke Kotaska, Darien Slawter, Paul Nanos, and Noah Baird, keeping the game tight and limiting UKC's attacking opportunities.
Despite dominating possession at times and outshooting UKC 8–7, the Seawolves were unable to find a game-winning goal, and Cameron scored again in stoppage time to hand UKC the victory. Goalkeeper Mikael Rataich made several key saves to keep UNBSJ in the match, while the team showed excellent chemistry between experienced veterans and younger players. The loss places UNBSJ fourth in the league standings, but the Seawolves head into the playoffs with momentum and confidence, fueled by strong performances from their senior leaders and depth across the roster.
