(Saint John, NB) UNB Saint John is excited to once again host the Bob Bonnell Invitational, a thrilling basketball tournament showcasing teams from the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). This event marks a significant milestone for the university's athletic program, honouring the legacy of a legendary figure in UNB Saint John's sports history.

Basketball Legacy Award Night 

We're thrilled to announce that Alvin Bell, UNBSJ Class of 1999, is the recipient of the 2025 Seawolf Award!

Alvin was a two-sport star during his time in Saint John, excelling in both basketball and badminton, but it was on the basketball court where he truly shined. In his senior year, Alvin made school history by becoming the first UNBSJ student-athlete ever named All-Canadian. He also earned ACAA Player of the Year honors and became UNBSJ's first back-to-back Athlete of the Year recipient.

During his illustrious career, Alvin became just the 11th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, ultimately finishing with an impressive 1,206 points—a record that still ranks 13th all-time.

From 1995-1999, Alvin exemplified excellence both on and off the court, setting a standard that continues to inspire our student-athletes today.

JOIN US FOR THE CEREMONY! The awards night is part of the 4th Annual Bob Bonnel Invitational Tournament. We invite all UNBSJ basketball alumni and friends of the program to join us on Saturday, October 4, 2025, following the men's game against Holland College.

Event Schedule:

  • Men's game begins at 3:00 p.m. 
  • Meet and greet: 5:00-6:00 p.m. 
  • Awards ceremony: 6:00 p.m.     

Location: Whitebone Pizzeria in the Thomas Condon Student Center       

Admission: $20 at the door, or free with tournament pass. Includes drink and pizza.
