(Saint John, NB) Not only competing for the win but also for the handcrafted Kingston Cup, Seawolves men's basketball team has much to celebrate after defeating the MTA Mounties 77-62 in their home opener. Since 2001, the Kingston cup has marked a rivalry game between the UNB Saint John Seawolves and the Mount Allison University Mounties.
Both teams came out strong at the start of the game. It was 13-9 after the first quarter, with Mounties having the momentum, but the Seawolves kept within four points going into halftime, at 35-31 for the Mounties. In the third quarter, the Seawolves began to pull away, leading 57-44, and solidified their lead in the fourth, ultimately securing the win 77–62 and hoisting the Kingston Cup in celebration.
AJ Nash was recognized as player of the game for the Seawolves, scoring an impressive 20 points. On the Mounties, Jonas Munroe put up 15 points.
The Seawolves are back in action Sunday, November 3, as they take on University of King's College Blue Devils.
